Like Goehr’s quintet for clarinet and strings op. 79, manere is influenced by early music and more specifically the Gregorian chant „Sic eum volo manére“ found in the Graduale Romanorum. The work itself is a 7 minute flowing dialogue between clarinet and violin characterised by a „drivenness, a felicitous racing through sections [and] a relishing of the structural advantages of unbroken flow“ (Paul Driver, The Sunday Times). Instrumentation: clarinet in B flat and violin op. 81
A trio combining gentle, hypnotic music with more troubled outbursts, this atmospheric work evokes moods associated with night and sleep. The highly complementary combination of clarinet, violin and piano allows for the use of varying timbres and effects. Suitable for both professional and amateur ensembles. Instrumentation: clarinet, violin and piano
This quartet arrangement of Allegrasco was originally planned for clarinettist Roger Heaton and violinst Alexander Balanescu – two members of the Gavin Bryars Ensemble – to perform outside the context of the group. Allegrasco, which features solo clarinet with violin obligato, is a companion arrangement to that of „The Old Tower of Löbenicht“ where the roles are reversed and the bass clarinet is an obbligato instrument to the solo violin. In both cases the additional instruments are piano and cello, giving the same instrumentation as Messiaen’s „Quartet for the End of Time“. Instrumentation: soprano saxophone/clarinet in Bb, violin, cello and piano

Watkins skillfully interweaves the two instruments around the chorale theme. As usual in Watkins‘ work his skill as a musician shines through with neither instrument dominating. Instrumentation: clarinet and piano
This short trio combines angular lines and troubling chromaticism to create a highly effective piece of mood music with an empty, eerie feel to it. A beautiful and poignant work in memory of the cellist Christopher van Kampen, Turnage wrote this piece to mark the life of a great friend. Instrumentation: clarinet, cello and piano
These four charming instrumental pieces are the preludes to a cantata Tippett wrote in 1958 for Badminton School, celebrating the seasons of the year. Each prelude is based on a traditional melody and the simplicity and directness of Tippett’s settings makes them ideal for young or amateur players. Instrumentation: mixed ensemble (recorders, clarinet, oboe, trumpet, string quartet and percussion)
